Albuquerque City Council Approves Raises for Police Officers

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Albuquerque police officers will be getting a raise after the City Council earmarked funds for the department.

The council unanimously passed a resolution Wednesday to give the police department $2.7 million for the raises, which will amount to a 5.9 percent raise for most patrol officers.

Officials say the exact raise amount has not been finalized as negotiations with the police union, the Albuquerque Police Officers Association, are ongoing.

The council also approved $5 million to pay officers involved in the lawsuit filed by the union that claims the city didn't give raises in 2010.
