Albuquerque Delays Construction Of New Bus System

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Construction on the Albuquerque Rapid Transit system will be delayed for two months to allow time for requested design changes.

Construction on the bus system is now scheduled to start in late July. Project spokeswoman Joanie Griffin says ART still hopes to finish construction by next fall.

The city is planning to add an additional station to the transit system at a cost of about $400,000 and address other changes suggested in public meetings.

The $119 million project won City Council approval last week and is awaiting federal authorization before work can begin.

Federal funding is paying for most of the project, which will create a nine-mile network of bus-only lanes and bus stations.
