ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Much of central and western New Mexican are under a flash flood watch a week after severe weather brought heavy rains and damaging floods.
The National Weather Service says the flash flood watch from Albuquerque to Gallup will remain in effect until 10 p.m. Monday. The watch includes Los Alamos and Taos.
Last week, strong rains brought flooding to Albuquerque and towns in eastern New Mexico.
In Algodones, a community just north of Albuquerque, strong rain caused a ditch to overflow and flood nearby neighborhoods. Sandoval County officials unanimously approved Monday an emergency declaration for Algodones, allowing the county to apply for federal disaster funding.
Officials say the heavy rain last month in New Mexico made it one of the wettest Julys on record.
