Clovis Fire Chief Stepping Down Friday; Interim Chief Named

CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) — The fire chief in Clovis says he's stepping down from the job.

Ron Edwards announced his resignation on Wednesday. It's effective on Friday.

He's a former chief who was picked last summer to lead the department again after the retirement of Ray Westerman.

City Manager Joe Thomas says Battalion Chief Mike Nolen has been selected as interim fire chief, effective Saturday.

Nolan will serve until the selection of a permanent chief is made.

He's been with the Clovis Fire Department for more than 15 and was promoted to the rank of battalion chief in October 2011.

Edwards joined the Clovis Fire Department in 1973 and served as chief from March 2003 until October 2004.

He also served one term as a city commissioner from 2006 to 2010.
