Clovis Man Convicted Of Drug Trafficking; Facing Prison Term

CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a Clovis man has been convicted of drug trafficking and is facing more than 26 years in prison. New Mexico prosecutors say 27-year-old Leonel Lopez was found guilty by a jury Wednesday of trafficking methamphetamine, distribution of marijuana and reckless driving. Lopez was arrested in April 2015 after his vehicle was stopped by Clovis police. A search warrant was issued and police say they seized more than 55 grams of methamphetamine, four grams of marijuana, a drug scale and cash. Upon a request from defense counsel, a judge delayed Lopez's sentencing to a later date. Prosecutors say Lopez is facing 26 ½ years in prison which includes mandatory time for prior felony convictions.
