Costilla Man Arrested On Carjacking, Firearms Charges

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A Costilla man has been arrested in connection with an alleged carjacking and other offenses committed more than three years ago. The U.S. Attorney's Office for New Mexico says the FBI and state police arrested 56-year-old Richard Howieson on Friday in Taos without incident. Howieson faces an indictment charging him with carjacking, carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Federal authorities say he carried out these crimes in February 2013. At the time, he was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition because of a prior conviction for leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death or great bodily injury. He will have an initial appearance in Albuquerque on Tuesday.
