ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A New Mexico man has pleaded guilty to assault and firearms charges stemming from a confrontation with two Navajo Nation police officers.
Prosecutors say 35-year-old Jarod Martin, of Crownpoint, entered his plea Tuesday in federal court in Albuquerque.
They say Martin fired shots at one tribal police officer after a March 2 traffic stop on his vehicle in McKinley County and pointed a gun at both officers as they tried to arrest him following a foot chase.
Martin was indicted on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a federal officer, being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
Martin remains in federal custody pending his sentencing hearing, which hasn't been scheduled yet.
