Employee Cleans Up German Artwork

STEVE INSKEEP, HOST:

Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep with a tale of a cleaning woman who did her job. She worked at the Ostwall Museum in Berlin and she noticed a wet stain on the floor by a modern art sculpture. She scrubbed away that stain, not realizing it was part of the sculpture called "When It Starts Dripping From the Ceiling." This has actually happened before with modern art in Germany. Back in 1986, a cleaner wiped away a grease stain that was valued at 400,000 euros. You're listening to MORNING EDITION. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
