Ex-New Mexico Jail Guard Indicted for Sex Assaults

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A former Bernalillo County corrections officer has been indicted for allegedly sexually assaulting four female inmates.

Prosecutors said Tuesday that a county grand jury has charged Torry Chambers with six counts of criminal sexual penetration.

Chambers was arrested in December 2010 for alleged custodial sexual misconduct.

Two of the women allege Chambers sexually assaulted them in 2008 and the other alleges that she was assaulted by him in August 2010.

At the time, Chambers had been employed with the Metropolitan Department of Corrections since 2003.

Late last year, a fourth inmate told authorities she allegedly had been sexually assaulted by Chambers in October 2010.

Prosecutors say a date for Chambers' arraignment before a District Court judge hasn't been set yet.

It was unclear Tuesday if Chambers has an attorney yet.
