Las Cruces police seeking driver in fatal hit-and-run

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — Police in Las Cruces are looking for the driver of a hit-and-run vehicle that fatally struck a 52-year-old legally blind man from Kentucky. They say the vehicle that struck Michael Chadwick between 5 a.m. and 6:20 a.m. Thursday is believed to have dark blue metallic paint and have front-end damage, possibly including a broken headlight or broken windshield. Police say Chadwick was from Somerset, Kentucky and had been living in Las Cruces recently. They say the vehicle was apparently southbound on Barker Road just south of Rigsby Road when Chadwick was struck and the victim might have been crossing the road when struck. According to police, the driver may try to hide the vehicle and change routines by missing work or school and driving another vehicle to avoid being caught.
