Libertarian Presidential Candidate Seeks Home-State Support

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Libertarian presidential candidate and former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson is courting voters in his home state with a weekend political rally as he pushes to break through the two-party political barrier. Johnson and running mate Bill Weld have scheduled a Saturday afternoon rally at the Albuquerque Convention Center. The Libertarian ticket is polling below the 15 percent threshold need for Johnson to participate in the televised fall presidential debates alongside Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump. Johnson state campaign co-chair Blair Dunn says Johnson's grown son and daughter also will speak at a rally designed to "get people pumped up and make sure people know that Gary is an option." A former two-time Republican governor, Johnson is running on a platform of fiscal conservatism and limited government.
