Lost Teens Spend Rainy Night On New Mexico Mountain

RUIDOSO, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say an afternoon outing gone wrong for four Albuquerque teens turned into a long rainy night on a southern New Mexico mountain. The Ruidoso News reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/2aB8E6i ) that the boys' family dropped them off Friday afternoon at the Crest Trailhead, which leads up the same mountain as the Ski Apache resort area. When they didn't return at sunset, the boys' family called for help. The newspaper reports that heavy rainfall hit the mountain as search teams looked for the boys starting around 8 p.m. New Mexico State Police launched a formal search at 10 p.m. that involved White Mountain Search and Rescue, the Rio Bonito Fire Department, and Alamogordo and Mesilla Valley Search and Rescue teams. Authorities say the boys — ages 14 to 18 — were found at 3:30 a.m. Saturday in a building at the top of a gondola lift, where they had taken shelter after getting soaked in the storm. Their names have not been released.
