Mexico City Lawmakers Try To Reduce Divorce Rate

You know the part of the wedding vows so long as you both shall live? Well, in Mexico City that may not be heard in ceremonies much longer. Lawmakers there want to reduce the divorce rate, so they've proposed letting marriage expire. Couples could decide beforehand how long they want their marriage to last - minimum two years. At that point, the marriage can just end if that's what a couple wants. The Catholic archdiocese in Mexico calls the proposal absurd. You're listening to MORNING EDITION.
