New Mexico State Police Identify Man Killed During Standoff

CARRIZOZO, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico State Police have released the identity of a man killed by police during a lengthy standoff along a highway in south-central New Mexico.

Police said 32-year-old Alan HuberthFranco-Armenta of Carrizozo was killed by police gunfire after he shot at officers Thursday morning.

The standoff along State Route 380 outside of Carrizozo began Wednesday night after Franco-Armenta was located by Lincoln County sheriff's deputies investigating a domestic violence incident at a home near Capitan.

According to police, Franco-Armenta during the standoff pointed a gun at his head and said he wanted to kill himself.

Police also said Franco-Armenta had multiple convictions for child abuse, being a felon in possession of a firearm and other crimes.
