New Mexico woman facing a charge of vehicular homicide

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A New Mexico woman convicted in 2012 for DWI now is facing a charge of vehicular homicide. KOB-TV in Albuquerque reports 33-year-old Elaine Sandoval appeared before a judge Saturday for allegedly causing Friday's fatal crash. Friends say the 27-year-old Karina Leanos was driving after an overnight work shift and was on her way to pick up her four children when her car was hit. Authorities say Sandoval was driving on a revoked license because of a prior drunken driving case. According to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court, Albuquerque police officers reported Sandoval had watery and bloodshot eyes after Friday morning's accident and they smelled alcohol. Police are awaiting results of a blood test to determine if Sandoval was under the influence at the time of the fatal crash.
