Police Follow Wheel Marks Made On Streets, Make Arrest

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Albuquerque police arrested a man after following wheel marks in street pavement after a suspicious vehicle punctured a tire when it sped away from a supermarket parking lot.

Officer Fred Duran says shoppers on Sunday had reported somebody in a parked car watching shoppers.

Responding officers approached the vehicle. It sped away at high speed, striking something that punctured a tire.

Duran says officers didn't pursue the vehicle but they followed the markings from the punctured tire's wheel. They found the vehicle about two miles from the supermarket.

The man inside the vehicle ran away when police arrived, but officers surrounded the area and arrested 50-year-old Christopher King on suspicion of transferring and receiving a stolen vehicle. It's not clear whether he has an attorney.
