Police: Hobbs man rammed into police car, held on 6th DWI

HOBBS, N.M. (AP) — A New Mexico man is facing charges after authorities say he rammed into a police car and was arrested for his sixth drunken driving offense. The Hobbs News-Sun reports (https://goo.gl/YuPNNH ) Leonardo Marquez Jr., was taken into custody Thursday night following allegations that he tried to run over a woman with his silver Cadillac sedan. A criminal complaint says Marquez led police on a high-speed chase. Hobbs police say Marquez eventually struck a patrol car as an officer was exiting to deploy tire-deflation devices. Police say the officer was treated at Lea Regional Medical Center for minor injuries. An officer reported the 25-year-old Marquez smelled of alcohol and slurred his words. Hobbs police say Marquez had five previous DWI charges. It was not clear if Marquez had an attorney. ___ Information from: Hobbs News-Sun, http://www.hobbsnews.com
