Santa Fe Considers Licenses To Sell Native American Art

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — Santa Fe city officials are considering requiring businesses to secure licenses to sell authentic Native American art. The Santa Fe New Mexican reports (http://bit.ly/2dkLemS ) that a proposal endorsed Monday by the City Council's Finance Committee would create a Native American Arts or Crafts District and require businesses selling such items to obtain a special business license. The license would require business owners to clearly distinguish between authentic tribal art and other items, to display a sticker at their entrance stating that they are selling Native American arts or crafts and to have a display at the cash register informing customers of their rights. The City Council is scheduled to consider the proposal Oct. 26.
