Sex Offender Sought In New Mexico Arrested In Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Federal authorities say a man sought in New Mexico for failing to register as a sex offender has been arrested in Arizona. U.S. Marshals Service officials say William Kammerer was taken into custody Monday in Tucson. The service's taskforce members from Las Cruces, New Mexico had been unable to locate Kammerer, who was previously convicted of victimizing a 14-year-old girl. They received information that he may have been hiding in the Tucson area and was located at his girlfriend's house, hiding in a closet. Authorities say Kammerer resisted arrest and they had to use a stun gun to subdue him. They say he'll face a new federal charge of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He also was wanted for failure to appear in U.S. District Court.
