State Police: Officer Uninjured When Patrol Car Hit, Burns

LAS VEGAS, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say there were no serious injuries when a stalled pickup rolled into a traffic lane of Interstate 25, was struck by a tractor-trailer rig and slammed into a New Mexico State Police officer's patrol car, setting it on fire.

According to the State Police, the officer was trying to jump-start the pickup Saturday morning near Las Vegas when it rolled backward, slightly entering the right travel lane.

The officer directed other vehicles to get into the left lane but the big rig didn't change lanes and hit the pickup.

The officer was outside her patrol car and neither she nor the big rig's driver were injured. The pickup's driver was treated at a hospital for minor injuries.

The big rig's driver received citations for careless driving and other violations.
