Woman sentenced to probation for fatally shooting boyfriend

LOVINGTON, N.M. (AP) — A judge sentenced a New Mexico woman accused of shooting her boyfriend in the chest to five years of probation for voluntary manslaughter, saying the lack of jail time was so she could raise her three children. The Current-Argus reports (http://bit.ly/2wa8U6N ) 27-year-old Adrianna Elizondo was sentenced on Friday in the death of 34-year-old Keith Riley. Defense attorney Denise Madrid-Boyea says Elizondo's defense and the prosecution reached a plea deal to avoid jail time. Riley was found dead April 2015 in a hotel room where the couple was staying with their infant child. Several guests at the Cavern City Motel said they heard the couple fighting on numerous occasions. Elizondo told police they were drinking the night of the shooting. She said Riley choked her several times in the night. ___ Information from: Carlsbad Current-Argus, http://www.currentargus.com/
