Albuquerque Police Arrest Suspect In Market

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a man wanted on several felony warrants is in custody after hiding in an Albuquerque market and triggering a SWAT situation.

Albuquerque police say 42-year-old Gabriel Matthews was spotted by police in a reported stolen truck Thursday afternoon and that started a pursuit.

The man then parked the vehicle in the Pros Ranch Market's parking lot and ran inside.

He wasn't armed, but customers were evacuated from the market by police and then a SWAT team and K-9 units began their search. They say Matthews was arrested about 5 p.m.

Police say they searched the vehicle Matthews was in and found a stolen police tactical vest.

They say Matthews has several active warrants for battery with a deadly weapon.
