Las Cruces Police: Driver Pointed Gun, Ran Red Light Before Crashing

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — Las Cruces police say a 45-year-old man was arrested after pointing his gun at driver and running a red light in front of an officer during a road rage incident. Scott Swearingen of Organ, New Mexico, faces one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Police say they were called to a road rage incident on Thursday night. Swearingen was swerving and driving extremely slow in a pickup when another driver passed him and honked to get his attention. Swearingen then pointed a handgun at the driver and started chasing him. An officer who was responding spotted Swearingen running a red light and driving over a center median before crashing through a rock wall. Swearingen was injured and sent to a hospital. He's now being held without bond.
