New Mexico State Police: 'Suspect' wounded in I-40 shooting

GALLUP, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a New Mexico State Police officer was involved in a shooting in which another person was shot and that eastbound Interstate 40 is closed in the Gallup area of northwestern New Mexico while the incident is investigated. Details are sketchy but the state police said the officer was not injured and that the shooting occurred Friday morning during a traffic stop. A state police statement referred to the wounded person as a "suspect" but gave no details about circumstances of the shooting. The statement said the wounded person was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
