Santa Fe Woman Gets 90-Day Sentence for DWI Wreck

ALBQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A Santa Fe woman faces 90 days in jail and must serve five years' probation and perform hundreds of hours of community service for causing a wrong-way accident on Interstate 25 while driving drunk.

The March 4, 2013 accident involved three vehicles, including one driven by a 30-year-old Raton woman who had to undergo an emergency C-section because of the accident. Her child is now a year old.

The Albuquerque Journal reports that 27-year-old Leela Perez was sentenced Monday in state District Court in Santa Fe.

Perez tearfully apologized to the crash victims. She could have been sentenced to more than nine years in prison.

Perez pleaded guilty to three felony counts of great bodily injury by reckless driving and a misdemeanor charge of DWI.
